Cruel Summer: By Bernard Jan

Review by: Angel Ramon Medina

Cruel Summer

Seventeen-year-old Michael Daniels is guilty. Or at least the FBI thinks so. He is being held captive in a large prison called New York City. Two of his closest friends – Alien and Victor – also think he's gulity, but despite their doubts, they remain his partners in crime.

In a society where people will do anything for power and influence, and others will do what it takes to survive, a group of skateboarders from New Manhattan strive to live normally among the chaos of NYC. They ignore the oppressive effects of climate change while boldly confronting the brutal, bloody murder that turned their lives upside down. Michael's best friends Alien and Victor set off in pursuit of the truth in order to prove Michael's innocence, hiding a secret that could seal their time of innocence, and like an earthquake, shake the very foundations of a new American and world order.

Cruel Summer is a novel about a teenager named Michael Daniels who lives on New Manhattan at the end of millennium, where child prostitution blooms and human experimentation is hidden yet seemingly common practice. There is only one ray of light in his life ever since his mother died – his dream to enter professional skateboarding contests. It is precisely this dream that guides him through his life and gives him strength to endure the abuse and mind games bestowed upon him by his stepfather for almost as long as he remembers.

Characters: 4.5/5 Stars -

The characters in this book are great and well developed. These characters are anything but one-dimensional! In fact, in certain parts of the story, I was under the impression that Michael was Bernard himself. Although it's later revealed that Bernard is more like Michael's best friend, who is Victor. I love the part where Victor goes sees his grandmother and I don't know Bernard personally, but I kinda knew that was him in his actual lifetime. Anyway, each character has their own unique personality. Although some of them do feel bland, but its the simple length of the novel.

 Plot: 5/5 Stars -

This is always a hard one to grade without spoiling the plot for others to read the book. Well here it goes, The plot has a dark dystopian feel to it with the ice age hitting new york and Bernard finds a way to fit his personality, which is what I absolutely love! I have to say that is the trickiest part of any book for an author to pull off. Michael has to prove himself innocent of a crime he did not commit, very similar to my second book, Framed: The Second book of the Thousand Years War Series. Anyway, it's a kick ass plot that I don't wish to spoil, so you'll just have to read it for yourself.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars -

An easy one to rate! Book is written so that its easy to follow along, not too many typos. Understand that English is not the author's native language, so hat's off to him!

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars -

The Ending of the book is so good and sad at the same time it made me cry. All I can say is poor Michael. What did Bernard do to Michael?

Final Verdict: 4.5/5 Stars - A three-run home run, almost a grand slam!

A overall excellent Dystopian fiction book, a solid read for sure and if you can read Croatian you can purchase it at the author's website at: http://www.bernardjan.com/books-in-croatian. English readers, you can get a sample of the book on the website as well.

I recieved a review copy in exchange for a honest review!

Excellent Job Bernard!!!!

The Ashtray

The Ashtray: By Benjamin Munday

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Since the mysterious death of his young daughter, Rangi's life has spiraled out of control. Physically feeble, and mentally destroyed, he is on the verge of a psychotic breakdown. His two best friends, Marty and Kai, at their wits end with trying to help, turn to the unthinkable to try to cheer their friend up.

What ensues in a dark and twisted series of events that will leave the reader spellbound, and ultimately spent and unsettled.

Characters: 5/5 Starts

The characters are well done, although dark in nature. Nevertheless, the cast fit's in perfectly with the main idea of the short story. Rangi is a man who's has lost his daughter and his life is beginning to fall apart. Meanwhile, his friends try to help him, but they are as immoral as they come. The characters although single dimensioned are excellent for a story that is only 30-45 minutes long to read.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

I will say this much, the plot is extremely dark and is not for the faint of heart! Besides that, the book focuses on the idea of the abuse of alcohol and drugs on a person in a weakened state of mind. It's well written and was a page turner, don't want to spoil the book too much so I'll just move on before I blabber it out!

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

Benjamin has been writing for over 20+ years professionally and it shows in his Award winning short story! Flow is great, just like a well-written song!

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars

The ending is the darkest part of the story! However, it's an ending that is only so real and it's a tough reality for some people. It did make me cry a lot and question if enough is being done to help out people with their addictions. Can't Spoil the ending, Ben would kill me, lol.

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars - A Grand Slam!!!

This might just be a short story, but boy is it dark! I mean the symbolism in this book is beyond good, it's perfect. The Ashtray gives a very good idea of the effects of drugs, alcohol, and a weakened mindset. This book is very dark and it's not for the faint of heart. However, if you do have the heart to read this book and have thick skin this is a nice quick read. Despite the short length, but it will leave you asking questions left and right. I definitely look forward to reading Benjamin's upcoming novel series, if the symbolism is anything like in this book, then I might just fall in love with this up and coming author! Keep it up, Benjamin!

The Sisterhood: By Alison Clarke

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

When Oppie and Aurie are faced with a terrible battle between good and evil, they discover that friendship and sisterhood are the most precious things in the world.

In a realm where magic and legend still exist, it's easy to think that when you're just an ordinary girl, you'll never get the chance to be written into the history books. But when Oppie, and her dragon friend Aurie, find themselves on a mission to defeat the evil, oppressive forces of darkness, in the form of the dragon, Royzendeus, they discover that history is never made alone. As they travel, their army of light grows, and Aurie discovers that as a girl, she is blessed with an entire sisterhood she never realized existed.

Characters: 4/5 Stars

To start with the review the characters are well developed to Alison's credit especially for her debut novel, so congrats to her for that! I can see how the young adults can relate to the characters even though the setting is that of middle-earth. It doesn't get a perfect rating because the story actually suffers from a rather strange problem and that is too many characters. I found myself getting lost at times due to the amount of characters in the story. Usually, the problem is the lack of characters. I had to re-read certain parts to understand what was going on. Otherwise good job on the characters.

Plot: 4.5/5 Stars

Excellent plot, it's basically a character named Oppie along with her middle-earth friends to fight an evil dragon. Your simple middle-earth plot, but what caught me was the cute nature of the story, where the friendship builds along the way. It's very similar to my writing in my series "The Thousand Years War", which is a plus! The plot alone fits the title of "The Sisterhood" perfectly! The only issue is like the characters, too much is going on causing me to re-read certain portions to make sure I understood the plot. Otherwise, it's an above-average effort!

Writing Structure: 4/5 stars

For a first novel, this is above average. Nevertheless some typos, grammatical mistakes and hard to follow format at times does cause me to take away points. However, it's not enough that it destroys the experience at all, I still enjoyed the story and these errors are rather small in nature.

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars

My favorite part of the book is the ending and it should be for any story for that matter. I really can't spoil the ending, so I'll say this much: This book teaches the importance of friendship and that love will beat hate any day! You'll just have to read it for yourself!

Final Verdict: 4.5/5 Stars - A three-run home run, almost a grand slam!

A great story that is well done! Especially for me a person who's a sci-fi writer and not much of a middle earth kind of guy. However, this story did hook me! The ending was great, I wish I could say it, but I don't want to spoil it for the rest. The only, thing I have to say is that there are alot of characters and I did get lost a little bit. Certain parts were a bit hard to understand as well or put together. I had to reread certain parts to better understand. I know what you were aiming for, though! I look forward to book two, keep up the good work! Other than that it was a great read!

No Peace After War: By Claire St. Hilaire

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

They are trained to be unbreakable, to put their lives on the line for America’s protection and freedom. But for the courageous members of the armed forces, coming home after the horrors of combat often introduces a whole new set of battles. The things they’ve seen and the traumas they have endured can often cast a haunting shadow and a creeping sense of terror over every aspect of their lives.

Too often, these uncomfortable realities remain unspoken—a nameless, faceless sensation too painful to mention. But in No Peace After War, author Claire St. Hilaire gives a voice to the atrocities that soldiers must face even after their service has ended.

In “Betrayed,” a soldier examines the missing pieces of what his life once was. In “Guts,” a series of diary entries explores the relationship between a wife with colon cancer and her husband struggling to push his PTSD aside. And in the poem “Medication,” the contradictions in the medical treatment of veterans are brought to light.

These and other topics are addressed in St. Hilaire’s captivating collection of poems and short stories—exposing the biggest difficulties that soldiers face after coming home in a uniquely haunting style.

Characters: N/A*

This is more a reflection of the many characters in the short stories, all the characters are well done. However, don't expect too much character development due to the fact this is a collection of short stories, not the fault of the author just the nature of the book. What you do see is different points of view of veterans and family members going through the pain of post-war experiences. I can't give this book an honest rating when it comes to characters since I'm more of a novel reader and more often see character development.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

Now when it comes down to the plot, there isn't really much of a "plot" since once again this is a collection of short stories rather than a full-fledged novel. Nevertheless, the author does an excellent job showing the dark but real story of what happens to soldiers when they get back from war through the many stories, which include "Short stories, diary entries and poems (Which my girlfriend really loves!)" The book does an excellent job of showing the true effects of PTSD. I have to say I relate to this book because I have a brother who went to the Marines, although he never fought in a war. Still, I understand the pain he endured by being in the Marines. I love the fact there are links at the end of the book for people who suffer from PTSD.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

No complaints here, it was easy to follow and the stories all flowed rather well! Not too many typos or errors, in fact, I think I saw none which is a big plus and shows this author cares about her work! That is what I like to see!

Ending/Climax: N/A

Besides the links at the end of the book for people who suffer from PTSD. I can't say this book has an actual ending. Again, this is because it's a collection of short stories and not a full novel. As a result, I can't rate this book honestly in this category.

Final Verdict: 5/5 stars

This book hits home in a big way because I have a brother who served in the Marines, although his PTSD isn't too bad since he didn't serve more than 4 years. Nevertheless, this book touches on the difficulty of returning from war and the effects of PTSD on the person and also the family of the veteran. This book is definitely written with a great respect for the men in uniform and I can respect that. Better yet instead of being one long novel, it's a collection of short stories which gives the reader many different points of views. Of course, links are added for those who suffer from PTSD or people who know someone who has PTSD. Before I go crazy I would like to conclude that this is a nice short read if you're bored or if you are looking for a book that gives a good representation of what post-army life really is. Trust me is nothing like the movies or on television series. Excellent all around, an easy 5 out of 5!

A First Move: By Shazia Ameerun

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

For some, it takes time to realize they have actually fallen in love. Sarah Arva is different. She believes that if someone is made for you, a cup of coffee should fix it all. She hates the wandering about in a relationship for years, and she believes marriage should be on top of the list. When the flirting begins, it is followed up with confusion and misunderstanding at work. But when Tobias Kinza gets transferred to San Francisco all of a sudden, just when Sarah has finally agreed she really likes him, she decides to make a move. Why can't a girl make the first move? But it has to be sensible. Sarah Arva has a wise plan, and she doesn't want to regret it when she turns fifty. But would Tobias Kinza respond the same? Will he declare how he feels? And was Sarah perfectly sure it's not an infatuation, but Mr. Right? Heart-warming, and romantic, A First Move is a story that will make you laugh, sad, and support Sarah when she finally realizes she doesn't want to regret whole her life.

Characters: 5/5 stars

For this young lady's first book she did one heck of a job with the characters. The kind of characters are realistic and fit the story very well for a New York setting. This may be a bit biased because I'm from Brooklyn, New York, but I think many readers will agree with me! I also love the fact the main character is Middle Eastern, it adds a quite a bit of flavor to the book. I personally love books with foreigners as it shows readers different cultures. All of the characters have their personality. Such as the backstabbing co-worker, the indifferent boss, the heartthrob and the girlfriends who will always back you up.

Plot: 5/5 stars

While the story may sound a little cliche, but for the first novel Shazia did what any debut novelist would do. Well except me of course and that is to go conservative with your first novel. However, as the plot begins to reveal itself I could tell the author is really passionate with what she is writing about! The story goes a woman falls for a man and decides should she go for the first move or not? I don't like spoiling the story so I won't say much more. At the end, I like the diary entry, which gives it a much more personal touch and gives it authenticity.

Writing Structure: 4.5/5

The author claims she graduated from a university and her writing skills do show it. Besides what is an author like me without a college degree doing critiquing a book from someone who has much more education than me, LOL. Just a little joke there, anyway the flow of the book is excellent that it makes it a page-turner especially towards the middle of the book. A few typos and not so fluent sounding sentences, but the errors are minuscule that it has little effect on the story.

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars

The ending is absolutely heartwarming, just like I was hoping it would be! While it may be cliche and sounds like a happily ever story just like any other story. However, the events that lead up to the ending reminds me of something that I need to do, lol. That story is for another day though!

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

For starters, you may be asking why is a Sci-Fi writer even reading a Romantic Comedy book. Well, I'm open to reading just about anything except westerns. The blurb is what caught my attention a woman looking for true love in New York! I can relate to this story very much as I am a New York native even though I reside in Puerto Rico. Anyway is a woman named Sarah who just got a brand new job and all is well until she meets a man named Tobias that she is attracted to very much! However, she is hesitant about making a move towards this man as she was always taught that the man is the one who needs to make the first move. To make the long story short the ending is beautiful and inspiring. Anybody who is single and needs to read a story that fuels positivity needs to grab a copy of this book. Trust me it was worth my money. Great job Shazia on your first novel, look forward to your next! To get a copy of this book click here!

Hades: Rise Of The Gods: By Jaqueline Stone

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

When you only have the aches and screams of tortured souls to keep you company, one can only imagine how lonely your life can be. But what if that was your life’s purpose?
The Greek God Hades has grown tired of his hellish isolation and has emerged from the
darkness to live among the mortals in hopes of creating a new world in his image. One of destruction and death.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

For starters, Hades himself fits the personality of what the God figure of Hades would have acted in real life.  I would have thought he would start in some supernatural world, but no. He starts like any normal person would start. Things really begin to become interesting when a female investigator by the name of Stephine steps into the picture to examine Hades. She tries to figure out who Hades is really about and realizes she and he have more in common that she thinks. Besides that the supporting characters are rich and they do what they suppose to do, which is to enhance the story.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

I kind of discussed the plot under characters. Hades sees Stephine as his former wife Persephone, who he ruled alongside before she passed away. Just the thought of having mythology and real life cross paths sounds like my cup of tea. The action builds up without becoming overwhelming to the point where it's just one long action scene. The best part is the build up towards the end of the book.

Writing Structure: 4.5/5 Stars

The flow of the story is well done and anyone who has the time can read this in one sitting without being "forced" to finish the book or to struggle to understand what is going on. A few misworded sentences and over worded sentences are about the only thing I can spot and it doesn't prove to be distracting for the story at all.

Climax/Ending: 5/5 Stars

The ending will make you go into shock or angry depending on your point of view. Let's just say the ending is not what you expect it to be...

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

This is my first book I read from Jaqueline Stone and I loved the idea of Greek Mythology and the real world colliding! This story begins with Hades like he's a real person only to be reminded that he's the ruler of the underworld. What makes the story interesting is that Hades has to pretend that he is an actual human being to build back his power out of sins. However, the monkey wrench gets thrown in with a female investigator and things between them get extremely interesting! I love the mix of mythology and romance that makes this a great hybrid paranormal book to pick up. Don't even tell me about the ending, it's too die for or angry depending on your point of view.

Lillith: My Genesis (The Vamperial Book 1): By Aminah Iman

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Lillith is the first wife of Adam, and the first vampire ever created, who has traveled the world since the beginning of time causing chaos and destruction in her wake. She has one known enemy, a group of powerful men and women, their goal being to rid the world of all things ungodly, the Order. They have been battling for over two-thousand years and it is finally coming to an end.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

the characters in this book are as colorful as they can possibly be. I love how Lillith is this anti-hero that we the readers are supposed to be cheering for. However, at the same time she is conniving to the point that I just hate her guts. That's a good thing though because I feel like I'm in the story and I feel for the characters actions, which is what I want from a book. I want to be transported out of reality for a little while and the characters in this story do exactly that!

Plot: 4/5 Stars

While the plot is excellent, I found myself having to reread passages to grasp the true understanding of the story. Also towards the middle, there is a bit of a plot hole, not too big though to damage the reading experience. Once I got over that and towards the end, it was well worth it!

Writing Structure: 3.5/5 Stars

This is the biggest reason why this book misses out on being the perfect book. Several sentences are misworded or could had been worded better. I really hate to nitpick, but some of these errors did show themselves in a big way. The middle is where most of the problems lie and I know the middle is the toughest part of any book. As a result, I don't want to be too much or a critic.

Ending/Climax: 4/5 Stars

Once I got over some of the plot holes and some of the smaller problems the ending was a page turner, which is crucial to any good read. The book despite getting a little flat in the middle blew me away at the end! So much that I decided to get the second book in the series! Overall a great cliffhanger ending!

Final verdict: 4/5 Stars

This is the first book I've read from this author and I look forward to reading her second book! It's a very dark book, so it's not for the faint of heart. I love how Lillith is written as an anti-hero, in one chapter she's the protagonist. However, one chapter later and throughout the book, she's portrayed as the antagonist. All of the supporting characters keep the flow interesting and fresh to read. One issue I did have was that some sentences could've been phrased better and there were a few times personal pronouns could have been used instead of repeating the name. Overall though if you love vampires and paranormal books, you'll enjoy this title!

Revelation: The Vamperial: By Aminah Iman

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

After the Order attacks Lillith and her ladies devise a plan of Godly proportions for revenge. When they aim for the head, some will roll and secrets are reveal. When these ladies ride out for the final battle will all of them return? Can Lillith trust her ladies, and can the Order stay safe. All will be revealed in Revelation: The Vamperial.

Characters: 4.5/5 Stars

The characters are mostly unchanged as this is the continuation of the First book "Lillith: My Genesis". Several new characters are introduced. What the books does well with is further developing the existing characters from the previous book. In my point of view. it kind of makes sense to read "Lillith: My Genesis" before this one to get a real sense of the well-developed characters.

Plot: 4/5 Stars

The plot is one that builds up, in other words, you do have to be a patient reader to get into it. That is not necessary a bad thing, though. This plot really gets into the nitty-gritty about the plan to form the four horsewomen, which is an idea I absolutely love. In my opinion, I do not recommend reading this before reading "Lillith: My Genesis" as this builds upon that story. However, if you have read the first book then I highly recommend the sequel.

Writing Structure: 4/5 Stars

The flow in this book and overall structure is much improved in this book. This is a good thing as the author is improving instead of going south. Not perfect, but a much smoother read and one that I picked up easier.

Ending/Climax: 4/5 Stars

The build up towards the end is great and it leaves me wanting more. The only thing I'm upset about is that I have to wait to read the rest of the story, but that's the way to create excitement. No fun giving it all away, right?

Final Verdict: 4/5 Stars

This is the second book I've read by this author and once again it's another great read! This book starts off from Lillith: My Genesis. I highly recommended you read that first before this one so you can understand the story better. This one lacks action as its builds up for part two, which did disappoint me. However, it makes me hungrier for part two of the story. I love the idea of the four horsewomen! A great read if you read the book before. If you want to read and buy this book, click here

Resonance: By Catherine LaCroix

Review By: Angel Medina

The murder of Jeremi and Victoria Terryn, a prominent and noble couple, shocks the peaceful city of Anastas. Caught in the midst of it all is Josselyn Thorn; a young woman who devoted her life and loyalty to them both. Josselyn finds herself accused of the crime and left to die in the dungeons- that is, until Adrien Markov frees her. In exchange for a life of luxury and grandeur, he requests her scintillating talents. Even while submitting to his every whim, she uses her newfound freedom to travel to the ends of the Kingdom of Rhoryn, seeking the truth.

Finally available as one complete collection- including an exclusive Epilogue- best-selling author Catherine LaCroix presents The Whispers of Rings.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

Let me start by saying that there are many characters in this book, so you really have to really pay attention to detail. However, that isn't a bad thing because the characters are well developed. Not too many things that I can land punches on, the main character Josselyn is a lost girl who is trying to find herself throughout the story. At the same time, she is a very nice girl who is misunderstood due to the circumstances. While Adrien is a seducing SOB who happens to speak softly to gather his victims. I could go on, but it would be no fun that way! You'll just have to read it yourself.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

The plot begins with a lady who is locked up for a murder that she did not commit. Being in prison left to rot she is saved by Lord Adrien. At first, she sees him as her best friend and lover. However, as she is introduced to a lady named Isabelle, she along with her uncover that Adrien, isn't all who he claims to be. For Josselyn though this is only the tip of the iceberg when she uncovers years of betrayal since her childhood years, as she uncovers the truth about her father and mother.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

Nothing to complain about here. The story flows well the beginning is a little slow, but what book begins with too much action besides mines, lol. However, as the book progresses it becomes a page-turner that anyone will enjoy even me! Not too many errors can be seen in the book and it just sounds great when you read it.

Ending Climax: 5/5 Stars

The ending is so dramatic that I can't say what it is in fears of spoiling the story for the people who haven't read the book. All I will say is that all of the worms pop out and the ending got me good. I was 0% close in predicting the end of the book. Just grab a copy and see how good it is!

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

A great epic story of love and betrayal! What starts out as a story of a lady in prison being rescued by a lord. However, as the story progresses it turns into a story where she uncovers a conspiracy plot that dates back to her childhood. Plenty of symbolism that really brightens up the story even further. I'm not a huge romance fan so for this book to get 5 stars says a lot! Easily one of the best books I read all year long! It's BAD ASS!

Don't Trust a Stranger: By Jacquelyn Wiles

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Have you ever wanted to date someone online? Do you trust people easily? Sometimes that can be a deadly thing. Never be too careful. Never settle for less than what you deserve .

Characters: 4.5/5 Stars

Julia, the main character begins in a state of depression when she finds out here boyfriend of three years has cheated on here with her best friend. The author does a very goos job of catching the moments of when a girl is depressed after losing her lover. Her sister and family are the supporting characters in the story. Doesn't this have the feel of a lifetime movie or is it just me? Then she meets Jack who starts off wonderful but becomes a controlling monster worse than Fidel Castro himself. Overall the characters are well-developed, just too quick of a read to give it a full five.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

This should be one of those 2-hour lifetime movies that you see on the weekends, not that I'm a fan of them so much. This story did twist my stomach and get me upset as Jack was becoming an asshole even borderline abusive. When he begins to threaten Julia and her ex-boyfriend this is where the title begins to shine and display itself. Warning: This book is not for the faint of heart and this is based on a true story and this can happen to any woman in any relationship.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

Not too many errors, in fact, I was able to read this in one night without it being a chore. That is a big plus for me, otherwise is a nice read free of any major errors.

Ending/Climax: 4.5/5 Stars

The ending is one as you read you die to get to. Warning: the ending is one that is not appropriate for anyone that can't take reading graphic violence and language. My only issue is that the book is a bit short and now I have to wait till the second book comes out. Nevertheless, it gives me something to look forward to!

Final Verdict: 4.7/5 Stars

This book closes in on a five. The length and lack of time for deeper character development do drag it down somewhat. Otherwise, for her first book, this author has hooked me into her series. This book reminds me of those good Lifetime movies I used to watch back in New York before I move to Puerto Rico. I love the flow of the story where it goes from sad to happy to suspenseful. All I could say is "Oh come on, can't I see what happens next!" However on a more serious note, this is a must read for those people who are single, but more for those who are in or have been in an abusive relationship. Look forward to part two of this story!

Xaizden is the Dark Lord who rules over Fellowdonia in the fantasy video game Graven Vengeance. A small rebel group called the Graven Clan are battling to overturn Xaizden and return their world to the beautiful place it was before Xaizden became so powerful.
The Graven clan live in the shadows of the land to stay undetected by Xaizden’s mutated Zylek warriors. Many battles have taken place over the years between these warriors, two of the Graven Clan have decided to use a Quantum teleportation machine called QTM-X8 in an attempt to teleport gamers from the real world into Fellowdonia to help them fight.
They have chosen the elite gamers they call the Overlord Warriors who have slain many Zyleks during battles in the video game to join them.
If Xaizden finds the QTM-X8 machine he will use it to teleport his armies back into the real world, so that he can rule the earth.
Fabian and Leiden are ready to launch the QTM-X8 for the first time to get help from the Overlord Warriors.

Characters: 4.5/5 Stars

This story has some great characters in it, everyday kids who are just playing a video game get sucked into a video game. However, it goes further as they other characters in the fantasy world of Fellowdonia who are also everyday people who got sucked in. There is much emotion in this story with the characters, which is paramount to a story with an RPG(Role-Playing Game) video game element. The reader can tell these kids become involved in saving the fantasy land of Fellowdonia for reasons beyond getting back to their own world. The only knock I have is the lack of background of the main characters, but it doesn't detract from the story too much and I understand this is a story for a younger audience. Overall excellent job.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

The plot is unlike your regular RPG objective such as saving a princess or defeating an evil force. It comes with a twist the evil attempts to use the QTM-X8 machine to return to earth in his evil form to take over Earth, which makes defeating him even more important. The heroes also gain superhuman powers and for the young audience, it gives them that thrill of being able to do something that isn't humanly possible. It also has it's emotional moments and isn't all action scene after another, which is a big plus. For an adult novel may not be as good of a plot, but because I'm a glutton for video games and this is aimed towards the young ones, it scores a perfect 5/5!

Writing Structure: 4/5 Stars

The flow of the story is good enough that it kept me reading until the ending. Although the writing is rather simple in nature, understand that this is a book aimed at younger readers. Overall this a great book for a kid to pick up if they want to get into reading and make it an everyday thing as part of their lives.

Ending/Climax: 3.5/5 Stars

Now if there's anything I have to knock is the ending. I was a bit disappointed when I was able to predict the ending before reading it, which does drop my grade quite a bit. I'm the kind of the reader who loves to be shocked at the end, so perhaps other readers will think otherwise. What makes it above average is the very end, which sets up for a future sequel. Overall not a terrible ending, but a classic example of keeping it under wraps until the end.

Final Verdict: 4/5 Stars

People say that writing a book based on a video game is risky because video games are much different than books. I'm a fan of reading such works, which led me to this book. Overall it is an excellent read, like really it plays like an actual RPG game. Although I prefer SciFi shoot 'em up's, I do like RPGs on occasion. The characters are well developed and I live the idea if being sucked into a virtual world, which is similar to my first novel. Only knock I have to make is the ending was a bit too predictable for me, which did disappoint me just a little. However, the events leading up to it are well-written. I look forward to Ben's next book! Overall a solid read for the kids out there and also a good read for any RPG geeks or video game nerds out there.

Hunter of the Dead: By Stephen Kozeniewski

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Someone has begun targeting vampires.
Vampire leaders of the thirteen Houses attribute the string of recent losses to over-zealous vampire hunters. Only Cicatrice, the most ancient and powerful vampire in the world, suspects that the semi-legendary Hunter of the Dead may be the real culprit.
Carter Price, a vampire hunter who despises the way his profession is becoming centralized and corporatized, begins to suspect the Hunter of the Dead is back, too – and no longer distinguishing between vampires and mortals. Against his better judgment, Price agrees to work with Cicatrice.
The uneasy allies attempt to uncover the truth about the Hunter, while a vampire civil war brews in the background. But perhaps most difficult of all, they must contend with their new apprentices, who seem to be falling in love with each other against every rule of man and monster…

Characters: 5/5 Stars

Where to start with this book? Well, the characters have their own personalities, which adds to the flavor of the story. It's like having a bag of skittles in your hand and every flavor is good, but there is that favorite flavor. In this case is the reader's favorite character, the problem is for me is that I don't have a favorite. I like each of them equal, which is rather hard for any novel to do. So kudos to Stephen for his excellent work with the vampire characters with a sense of humor.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

As the blurb indicates the book is about a vampire civil war, which is original in its own respect. However, what separates this book from every other "Vampire" book is the humor aspect of the story. This is perhaps the ace in the hole for this book if you want any spoilers, well tough I'm not in the business to give out any spoilers. You'll just have to read the book to find out!

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

The flow of the story is excellent and plays like a long musical. No major errors to point out. Looks like this man has been writing for a long time and it has come naturally, just like me!

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars

The vampires believe that they are being killed by just plain old Inquisitors, but they come to find out that it's something far greater and powerful. Honestly, when I picked this book up I expected a thrilling ending just like any book in its genre. What I got was much better along with the humor! Easily an ending that's worth the time!

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

I have become a fan of this kids work! Whoever said vampires could not have feelings. It's the perfect mixture of comedy and bloody violence. Each character has their own unique personality, which adds to the flavor of the book. It's well written and flows very well so the time I did have to read it would be rather long periods of time. I'm not a reviewer who loves to give away plots, so you will just have to read it for yourself!

A Collection of Crime: BY J.F. Fleming

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Sex, Drugs, Murder, and Double-Crossings! This is a compilation of fifteen short stories focused in the genre of Crime-Fiction.

Characters: 5/5 Stars*

The star next to the rating is a disclaimer that the rating I gave the book based on this category is based on the individual characters in each story. In otherwords is more of a subjective score and isn't weighed as heavily because this is a short story collection. With that out of the way, this book does an excellent job with the characters even though they don't get much time to develop due to the length of each story. I'm more of a novel writer and enjoy longer development, but that doesn't take away that the criminals each have their own devious personality. By the characters themselves, I can tell that J.F Fleming really loves writing crime fiction and he should continue to do so!

Plot: 5/5 Stars

The plot of each story is excellent in their own respect. Some of them are actually based on real events, which adds flavor to the stories. I'm not a man who spoils plots so you'll have to read for yourself! All I can say is if you have a weak heart, this book isn't for you.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

Not too many typos and the ones I found don't detract from the story at all. Each story has their own flow, some are slow while others are fast paced. It gives the reader a varied pace throughout the book in case they need a rest at some point. Unless you're a monster like I am, lol.

 Ending: N/A

As much as I love the endings to each story, but I can't give it a rating because there is no true ending to the book, unlike a novel. This isn't a bad thing, is more that this is a short story collection.

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

This is the second book by this author and he decided to go in another direction. Although I was disappointed that he didn't continue from his first book, but that is the only negative I have and it's my opinion and nothing about the book itself. As for the book, each story is its own story, each of them short enough to enjoy without being too bored. I will say this much as well I read this book in two days, I did not want to put it down at all! I mean s*** this man can write! While the language is graphic in nature, but who said criminals have remorse or have to be nice. Each story has its own unique meaning, symbolism, and character personalities which make it a rich read for anyone who loves Crime Fiction. I will only say this much, but my favorite story was the dirty fisherman one. That is all I will give away, though, you need to read it for yourself. Kudos to Mr. Fleming for this excellent book!

Apocalypse: The Vamperial: By Aminah Iman

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

After the Order attacks Lillith, her and her ladies devise a plan of Godly proportions for revenge. When they aim for the head, some will roll and secrets are reveal. When these ladies ride out for the final battle, will all of them return? Can Lillith trust her ladies, and can the Order stay safe. One will fall, one will rise, and one will betray in Apocalypse: The Vamperial

Characters: 5/5 Stars

At this point of the final part of the book you expect the characters to be developed and not only does Aminah deliver, she goes beyond the call of duty. Just take a look at the cover and you can already see what the characters look like. However, she takes it a step further and further describes them in the book. She even goes as far as delivering a small bio for each of the immortals after so long right? lol

Plot: 5/5 Stars

Before I start here, I highly recommend that you read the two books that come before this one, they are Lillith: My Genesis and Revelation: The Vamperial. Reading those books will give you a better sense of the plot. As for the plot itself, it's basically the final battle between the order and immortals and without giving up anything I will say this is how you end a series. If there's any negative I can say is that why does the series have to end? Trust me the idea of the four horsewomen is a unique idea and one even I never thought about.

Writing Structure: 4.5/5 Stars

At the final book of the series I was thoroughly impressed on how much the author has improved when to comes to wording the story. Not as many mistakes, a few, but a vast improvement. I'm proud of this one for the great improvement. It's so good that I refused to put it down!

Ending: 4.5/5 Stars

If you read the first two books you might think you have an idea how this story will end. Boy you could not be any more wrong about that, the ending is so twisted I refuse to say it here. I will say that the reason it isn't perfect is because it leaves on a cliffhanger. Knowing this is the final book of the series does leave me wanting more, sadly the author is moving on to bigger and better things. Only advice would be, in a final book, end the story, unless she plans to come back with the story years from now. Who knows?

Final Verdict: 4.8/5 Stars

A great way to end a series! I have to say this book despite being short is full of surprises, the characters are well-developed and there is plenty of action to be enjoyed in this book. The only suggestion is that before reading this book, that you read the previous two books as you get a much better sense of the actual story. I have to say this is a great way to end the story, the only knock is the story does leave on a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm disappointed that this is the last book of the series. I have truly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I look forward to Aminah's other works!

Moments of Horror and Suspense: By Richard Klu

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

This collection of Short Stories from Richard Klu is a mix of horror, suspense, and science fiction. The collection is the culmination of seven years of work.

Characters: 4/5 Stars*

For starters, this is another short story collection, which means the characters will be different per story. Some of the stories are weak because there isn't much character development in them. Listen I get what the author is trying to do by writing flash fiction and try to create a story in the fewest words possible, it just isn't my cup of tea. However, the better stories in the book or at least what I found enjoyable had good character development. In fact, for short stories, some of these characters are developed rather well compared to much longer books that did not impress me so much. I would rather the author build up those stories more as for me they have a foundation to be more.

Plot: 3.5/5 Stars

This is where I was slightly disappointed and I hope the author takes this as constructive criticism. Some of the short stories are just too bland and should not be in there. Then again a fan of flash fiction could absolutely be blown away by the stories. For as many bland stories there are some diamonds in the rough, some of the stories especially at the beginning remind me of episodes of the Twilight Zone. The final four stories are the big draw for me and they come to save the day for this title. This man has potential lots of it, I won't rush to any rash judgments before I get the chance to read any more of his work.

Writing Structure: 4.5/5 Stars

Didn't find too many mistakes in the book, but the flow of the stories is a bit predictable at times. Other than that this book flows well and should be an enjoyable read for the patient reader.

Ending: N/A

This being a Short Story collection, there is no actual ending to this book. So I can't give a rating, although some of the endings are pretty good.

Final Verdict: 4/5 Stars

This is the first book I read from this up and coming author, I have to say I'm am happily surprised. The only knock I have with this short story collection is that there are a few weak short stories and an impatient reader might decide to stop right there. However, if you're one of those readers you're doing a disservice to yourself and will miss out on some great stories towards the end. Especially the last 4, which got me hooked big time! If there's any room for improvement it would be to strengthen the stories at the beginning so the reader won't give up towards the middle. Overall solid effort by this young man and a 4/5 is a great book for me, so go check it out!

Working on It: By Cass Alexander

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

Looking for something a little naughty and a lot funny? Meet Rebecca Banks.

Inexperienced Rebecca has it bad for Evan, resident stud at Persimmon College. Unfortunately, he’s already taken. Evan’s obsession with Rebecca's dirty mouth is unexpected. Her insults are unique and border on mean--and they're a total turn on. His behavior is getting out of control. In fact, he’s willing to end things with his girlfriend in order to get into Rebecca’s…life. The more she resists, the harder he'll chase her. Inexperience and fear of getting hurt hold Rebecca back. And that running list of flaws she has isn't helping. But she's working on it.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

For starters, the characters are what you expect in a romantic comedy book, each of them with their unique characteristics. However, the book does a good job showing than telling enabling the reader to pick out the different personalities while the events are taking place. The characters are so developed I was able to relate to them based on my real life experiences, although I never went to college. Nevertheless, I was able to compare Rebecca's and Evan's relationship to my relationship with my sweetheart. Any book that can do that is worthy of a read and besides I need a break from the violence of my novels.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

This is your classic romantic comedy story, but unlike your crazy college story, this takes place in a more calm college environment based on where the author attended college. It makes the plot much more realistic and more relatable to people like me who grew up in a closely knit community. Classic yes, innovative yes. To be honest there are many twists and turns that kept me going, if I wasn't so busy I would have read the book in one to two sittings.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

The story flows perfectly, little to no mistakes and it kept me engaged for hours per sitting. It will definitely not bore you to death that's for sure unless you're an adrenaline junkie then there's no helping you and this book isn't for you.

Ending/Climax: 5/5 Stars

The many twists and turns in the story make the ending worth getting to, in fact when I reached that point of the story I could not stop. To add the ending was worth it and is a rather happy ending at that, which is always a plus for me. I'm not giving it away since I want the reader to find out for themselves.

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

This is the first attempt for this young author and boy did she impressed. Each character has their own personalities, which is what you expect for a romantic comedy. However, the way it is written you feel like you're actually in the story yourself, after all, who hasn't had that girl/boy we were crazy about. I'm still out with my girl now, I get a peek into my past and I can relate a bit to Evan one of the main characters in the story. Although my idea of a romance story is much more extreme as seen in my books, but it's nice to read a romance story that is more down to earth. I still don't plan to write any books in this genre, but Cass has opened me to reading more books in the genre. Excellent job Cass and keep it up, don't slack! :)

Trojan: By Alan McDermott

Review By: Elaine Emmerick

When MI5 learns that a horrifying new weapon is in enemy hands, agent Andrew Harvey is called in to track it down before it reaches British soil.

The clock is ticking. Andrew and his girlfriend, Sarah, also a secret service operative, have only one lead: a beautiful refugee, desperate not to lose her son. But is she desperate enough to betray everything she believes in? And will she do it in time to help them prevent a terrifying attack?

As Andrew and Sarah race to unravel a convoluted web of subterfuge and exploitation, they discover there is more at stake than even they knew. And somewhere, at the heart of it, lurks a faceless enemy, who is prepared to use everything—and everyone—at his disposal.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

The characters in this book are believable and people you care about. Andrew, Sarah, Veronica and Farsi work for MI5, while Len and Sonny are ex-SAS soldiers called in to help prevent a terror attack on London.  All are familiar to readers of Alan’s Tom Gray series.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

An extremist group, Saif al-Islam, is threatening to use a chemical weapon called X3 in London. The couriers are five women with children, and after arriving in England they hand over their consignment.  It isn’t long before MI5 are on their trail, however.  Knowing that an attack is imminent, Andrew and his team are tasked with finding the deadly gas, but all is not what it seems.

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

The book was easy to read and flowed from beginning to end. Alan's style of writing is in-depth and he pays attention to every detail.

ending: 5/5 Stars

The tension grows throughout the book as Andrew and his colleagues are hampered by misinformation and duplicity, but as they begin to scrape away the lies to reach the truth, their focus turns to one man.  Identifying him was just the start; finding someone who wants to remain hidden brings a whole new challenge.  The clock is ticking as the deadline looms, and MI5 are going to need all their resources if they are going to prevent a deadly strike on the capital.

Overall: 5/5 Stars

This book was a thrilling, exciting, edge of your seat read! The storyline is absolutely believable! You won't be disappointed!

Yakuzawa: Rising Son: By Cory Tsuhako

Review By: Angel Ramon Medina

In the dirty and seedy underbelly of present-day Los Angeles, Daniel Goya finds that he is torn between his fading dental laboratory, his love for a new woman who has entered his life and the inescapable obligation to a family he hasn’t seen in over twenty years.

As Daniel becomes more and more involved with the “family business” he finds there are limitless rewards for the right man, but what will be asked of him. And what sacrifices is he prepared to make in a game with so few rules?

Yakuzawa: Rising Son is an action packed, sex-fueled story of Daniel’s journey of self-discovery and corruption as he descends into the world of porn, prostitution, and murder in a city which might ultimately consume him.

Characters: 5/5 Stars

This is easily my favorite part of the book or at least one of my favorite parts. Each character has their own bad ass personalities and they can all defend themselves. I love a story with characters that can handle themselves, I'm an action junkie. Don't judge me now, ok? Plus there are many characters in the book as well, which makes the story even richer and more of an eye-catching read. Honestly, my favorite character was Daniel and my most hated character was Satoshi, but I'll let you the reader decide for yourself who will be favorite.

Plot: 5/5 Stars

In short, the plot is Daniel who is part of a huge family is struggling to keep his dental business afloat. That is until he has a chance to work in his family business, but as he treads deeper into the business he finds that it becomes dangerous. In fact, he realizes many sacrifices have to be made in order to climb up the ranks and that is all I'm willing to give up. You'll have to read it for yourself, easily a great plot and one that continues to build up until the end. Reads like a great A Grade Action movie!

Writing Structure: 5/5 Stars

East to read, no typos and the story flows well. The only reason it took me longer to read it was because of my own work I was doing for my book. Overall, a nice page turner!

Ending: 5/5 Stars

The ending was a long way from when I started. However, I love books where I have to "earn" my way to the end. It sure does not give away the ending at all, hint: It's very dramatic and one that I didn't even come close to predicting. Any book that makes me thin and/or stumps me is worth of being a 5-star book! Easily a bad-ass ending, so the final veridict is...

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars

This is the first book that I've read from Cory and I got to admit, it's a winner! Not only are the action scenes great, suspenseful, Cory managed to keep me in suspense from beginning to end! Also, I got to learn about the Japanese Mafia and I come out knowing more about them even if it's for knowledge, as I don't plan to go to Japan anytime soon. It was an easy book to read and follow, plus the pacing of the book was fast, but it did slow down enough for me to gather my thoughts on what I just read. Not much of a Japanese history freak, so I did learn about the history of Japan quite a bit. Overall, I felt entertained after reading this book and I highly recommend this book to anybody, even if you're unfamiliar with the Japanese Mafia!

Vladimir Koralov was on an elite KGB team many years ago. A mission went catastrophically wrong. Most of the members died. Or so, everyone thought.

In truth, four members killed several others so they could escape communism and defect to the United States. Vlad has discovered their betrayal and has brought a team of assassins to kill the former Soviet traitors.
