Cory Tsuhako

Another author has stopped into the Hybrid Nation for an interview. He’s a novelist and freelance writer who is also a dental technician. He is from Los Angeles, California in the United States and has many other hobbies, but we’ll let him tell him what he likes to do for himself. As seen on his social media platforms he is a hard-working author willing to pay his dues and is trying to write the best book possible, after all isn’t that what we authors want to accomplish. Anyway let’s quit the small talk, hehehe. Cory Tsuhako, welcome to the Hybrid Nation and let’s get this interview started!

1. When did you decide to become an author?

When I was in business school, a couple of my classmates from Japan told me they were writing books and that’s what gave me the idea.

2. Why did you decide to become an author?

I was closing my business and wanted to share my experiences on running a business.

3. What genres do you plan to write for the future?

All types. I think that it’s fun to try new ideas. I’d like to write a science fiction and a detective mystery in the future.

4. Besides writing what else do you like to do and what are your hobbies?

I like sports (baseball, football, basketball and boxing) and music (jazz and R&B).

5. Who’s your biggest inspiration for your writing?

Michael Crichton; John Grisham; Stephen King, James Patterson, and Haruki Murakami.

6. How much time do you dedicate to writing your books?

I write everyday about 2-3 hours a day.

7. How important do you think writing is to the young generation?

I think it’s very important. Writing is the most important form of communication along with oral communication.

8. How excited were you when you finally published your first book?

I was more surprised than anything.

9. What is the easiest part of writing in your opinion?

Promotions.

10. What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?

Not knowing if I’m writing something that will sell.

11. What is your favorite and least favorite part of writing?

My favorite thing is clicking that publishing button.

My least favorite thing is dealing with criticism. I know that it’s how you grow and learn but sometimes it’s a pain.

12. What can we expect from you next?

I’m working on some short stories.

13. How much more do you prefer short stories over an actual novel?

A lot! They’re easier to write, require less time and are less risky.

14. Finally, how do you deal with writer's block?

If I’m not motivated to write I’ll work on promotions and that seems to help; also listening to music and audio books while writing also works for me. Reading for inspiration from great authors and their books seems to work for me as well.

Going to the library also seems to help. There’s a good writing video that I found helpful on YouTube here’s the title: Get Rid Of Writer's Block: Who's At Your Table? A Meditative Writing Exercise.

15. If you like to say anything else such as advice, shoutouts, or just whatever’s in your mind say it now. The stage is yours!

My last thing I’d like to say would be for young people to embrace and accept change especially in respect to their careers. When I started in my career people manufactured teeth by hands and now computers make them. For the people that didn’t adapt to change they’ve been left behind. You never know what things may come your way in the future so it’s probably best to keep progressing, adapting and growing as a person and a writer.

Well, that’s a wrap ladies and gentleman. It was nice talking to this brilliant and kind-hearted man. Cory, it was an honor talking to you and once again congrats on your books, that is certainty an honor to be proud of! I wish you the best on your future endeavors and may your success continue for years to come.
