1. Characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amy Spencer was a Detective Constable on Kate's team. Kate Matthews is a Detective Inspector. Laura Trotter is a Detective Constable on Kate's team. Ben Temple is a pathologist. Trevor Armitage is a Detective Chief Inspector. Gavin Isbitt had his BMW stolen. Nicola Isbitt is Gavin's wife. Finn is Amy's step brother. 2. Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The story opens with Amy being chased around her home. She feels a sharp pain on her neck and passes out. DC Amy Spencer died a year ago. DI Kate Matthews is on a high speed pursuit and ends up in a car accident. When she wakes up, she's in the hospital. She leaves the hospital and goes back to the police station. Her supervisor sees her and tells her to go home. Kate hears that there's news about Amy's death and Kate intends to find out. Kate meets with DC Trotter and is told that they found a young woman's body in the trunk of a BMW. She was badly beaten. Ben, the pathologist, says the woman was hit with a blow to the base of her head then suffocated. Kate feels guilty that she was not able to solve Amy's murder. It haunts her days and nights. She remembers Amy helping her with the Graham murder case. Kate goes back to London to talk with DCI Armitage to share with him that Amy's killer knew she was a Detective but he doesn't believe her theory. Kate sees Finn at the police station and decide to have coffee. She shares her theory and he wants to help her find the killer. There's been another murder. Kate and Laura arrive at the crime scene. Ben's already there; the woman has been brutally beaten. The two victims have one thing in common: they have profiles on an online dating site. Gavin has been questioned by Kate and Laura; he's then released. Kate wants to talk to Nicola and while she's there, Gavin receives a text message from "Rick" to meet at a pub. Kate is on her way to the pub, she goes in and doesn't see him so she leaves. As she gets to her car, she's hit in the back of the head and passes out. What happens to Kate? Who knocked her out? Will she find out who killed Amy? You'll have to see for yourself! 3. Writing Structure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stephen has weaved a fast-paced, edge of your seat read! I love that Amy's backstory is throughout the book. It gives the reader her perspective of the murder case and what ultimately happens to her. Kate is a resilient woman; she is head strong but very vulnerable with expressing her feelings to those closest to her. 4. Ending ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OMG! OMG! I was on the edge of my seat! You will not believe who knocked Kate outside the pub. I didn't see it coming! Finally, Kate figures out who killed Amy. In a heart-pounding, mind-blowing ending, it all falls into place. You will not be disappointed! I'm still reeling from the ending! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! 5. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is Book 2 of the DI Kate Matthews Series. Stephen has really done it this time - the plot, the characters, everything! The story grabs you right at the beginning and doesn't let you go! I look forward to Book 3!!
