1. Characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The characters in this short story collection are very diverse. These are people who are living a life very different from our own. They are people you sympathize with. You find yourself asking "what would I do?" 2. Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The plots in this book are futuristic and mind-blowing. From a man who's a hard worker; not knowing his brain is being depraved of the natural products it produces, to a woman who is willing to sacrifice herself for her ailing husband, to a man who lives his life day after day; not knowing he's being controlled and finally a man and woman who survive a deadly disease, only to find themselves in just a bad situation in a "safe place". 3. Writing Structure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These stories give the reader an opportunity to reflect on what happens to these characters and what kind of world they live. J. Porteous has weaved four distinct tales that are dark and thought-provoking. 4. Ending ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The endings in this collection are not "happily ever after". These stories are of deceit, love, sacrifice and survival. 5. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is J. Porteous' second book; his first book "Bleak Horizons". I throughly enjoyed his short stories and I look forward to more! WELL DONE!!
