1. Characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ray Hanson works with the NSA and CIA on covert agencies and missions. Paddy is Ray's bodyguard. Jasper is a money launderer for drug dealers and terrorists. Raske is an assassin. Danny Benedict is an ex-DCI and Murder Investigator; now a member of Ray's team. Johnnie Garrett is a drug dealer. Tommy Gibbs is a drug dealer. Lomax is the middle man for the drug dealers. DCI Peter Rowe works for the Serious Organized Crime Command. John Davidson works for UK Customs and Excise. DI Wallace works with Benedict. 2. Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's April, 2009 and Anderson tells Ray to get his head down. There is an assassin in the office - but Ray's bodyguard, Paddy, is behind the assassin and shoots him. They begin to tell the assassin that Jasper is dead and he laughs. Anderson saw a red dot on Ray's forehead; he gets Ray out of the way and Anderson is killed. It's now August, 2016, and Raske wants to know what happened to his partner, Richter. Richter tried to kidnap Ray's daughter, Alice. She is rescued by Ray's team and he was killed. Johnnie Garrett and his girlfriend are going to his cousin's house. He brought cocaine for Curt. He and Curt are outside when Johnnie sees a red dot on his cousin's head and is shot in the head. DI Jardine arrives at the crime scene, waiting for Benedict. John Davidson works at the UK Customs and Excise. He tells Celso (who lives in Italy) that the 3 paintings are worth 2 million pounds each and that they're on their way to London. Celso tells him to email all information about the flight and destination. Benedict goes to the art gallery to speak with Curt's partners. They told him that large amounts of money had been taken out of various bank accounts and they weren't sure if Curt had been honest with them. Billy Horne is outside his business. It's a front for the import of cocaine. The van parked there has cocaine in it. He and Rich are going to open the back of the van when the shooting begins. Billy and his team are all killed. John Davidson has a meeting with Celso at his flat. They exchange money and information about the paintings. After John tells him everything, Celso kills him. Benedict believes all murders are connected - the sniper used the same rifle. Does Benedict put the pieces together? Will Benedict and Wallace catch the sniper? Where are the paintings? You'll have to read it and find out! 3. Writing Structure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Karl has weaved a tale with multiple storylines - as the story continues, it comes together. If you've read "Weight of Shadows", you are familiar with the characters. His attention to detail puts the reader there in the scene. The story is easy to read, with twists and turns and lots of action. 4. Ending ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The ending is a roller coaster of thrills and suspense! Benedict puts most of the pieces together but there is still one question yet to be answered... 5. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is Karl's second book of the "Shadow" series. I throughly enjoyed reading this book! It's great to read about the characters; how they develop and grow. Karl has written a gripping thriller! He never disappoints his readers! I look forward to book 3? I hope so!!
And on a personal levl, I love the cover! - Angel
