Hondo's Journal #1

July 7th, 2009

As I'm working on the next book of my GameLit Survival Horror series, I'll give you a close up on one of the main MC's of the new 1.5 installment, Hondo. He's an ex-boxer from Puerto Rico who has turned into a private investigator. When he's not finding his next case to investigate, he loves to play a zombie horror game. However, the game seems to have gotten into his head and now he's changed his train of thought for better or worse.

Anyway, here is Hondo's first Journal Entry, enjoy...

My name is Hondo, to protect my name should anyone find this journal. I was raised in Puerto Rico most of my life. I grew up to a boxer, mostly a mid-card boxer. I wanted to be professional until my back went out and I was forced to retire early.

Despite that, there was something else I wanted to be and that was an officer. However growing up in the country or "Campo" like they say out there didn't do me any favors. As a result, I wasn't able to finish High School because I had to work early to support my mother and father who didn't have enough to send me to school.

With that in mind, I decided to get together with a group of friends and become a private investigator. While not as cool as being an officer, it does pay the bills. Not to mention sometimes we even crack the case and even get a nice reward for doing their job.

Today marks two years since the crazy zombie outbreak in New York City. It's crazy because many people died out there and on that day Hybrid was supposed to make an announcement of their new cancer vaccine called "Raven Hawk". Instead of a cure, I saw something only the devil could possibly create! The poor humans in that hospital had to go through a devilish transformation. They lost their beauty, their innocence, and just lost their souls in the name of science.

Also I used to teach boxing down in Brooklyn where I taught a student of mine named Angel. We would keep in touch and he told me he was getting oral surgery that day. I hope he survived, but I'm sure one of those zombies or monsters got to him before he even got to enjoy his life...

I know that there's no evidence that Hybrid used the Raven Hawk virus to create the mutations and monsters. The Hybrid Corporation continues to claim that it was an accident and nothing more than that. I gotta admit, a multimillion dollar company like them do have the money to sway the authorites away to turn a blind eye.

I don't buy into that, after all what kind of tests were done before hand? Why was this vaccine released knowing that it could produce mutations and other unwanted results? I might have been born in the country, but I smell something fishy and I'm one of the few who believe that this was no accident.

Sadly with the exception of George Fisher who's a journalist, no one is gonna believe us. All I can say is, 'God forgive me if I'm wrong.'

The sad part is though, I don't think, I know that I'm not wrong...

I hooe you enjoyed this small journal entry and more will be on the way in the coming days. If you enjoyed the journal entry and like to check out my series, check it out on Amazon, even if it means you end up just browsing around.
